A group of computer devices that can exchange data and communicate with each other is called a network. There are many computer devices that can be used to connect with each other. In a company, of course, it has a set of these devices to support the company’s processes. There are several types of networks, namely LAN (Local Area Network), WAN (Wide Area Network), and MAN (Metropolitan Area Network). Network networks in a company are included in the LAN. LAN is a collection of networks in a small area, such as offices, schools and homes.

Sometimes we experience interference with network devices, which results in us not being able to access the computer, not being able to connect to each other, and not being able to get information from the server. There are many disruptions to network devices, namely hardware, software and other external factors.

Hardware faults are faults that originate from workstations, hubs/ switches, and connector cables. Device installation errors are errors that occur very often. Meanwhile, disruptions that occur on servers and client PCs caused by not running wireless applications, or conflicts on IP (Internet Protocol) are software interference. In addition, there are other causes of interference that come from external factors, namely the maintenance of a network device. If a device lacks periodic maintenance, there may be interference from the device because the device is corroded or the device becomes rusty. This can also be due to inattention to room selection because room humidity can affect the quality of network devices.

Network engineers need to maintain the network so that there are no disturbances that can disrupt the operational processes of a company. Based on existing disturbances, there are several disturbances that occur very often, and need to be considered. These disturbances are:

1. Damage to Network Connectors

We start from the simplest interference, which is interference that arises due to damage to network connectors or cables. Although this interference is called a simple interference, it is enough to disrupt the LAN network so that the running of a company’s processes is also disrupted. Damage to network connectors can be caused by several factors, namely cable preparation errors, pinched cables, rodent bites, loose connectors or cables.

2. Damage to the HUB / Switch

The switch is a terminal or also known as a data signal splitter or network card. We have to see whether the switch is experiencing temporary problems or is damaged. If the switch is already damaged, you must replace it immediately so that your network can be more stable.

When a switch is experiencing interference, the entire connected network cannot function. Between workstations cannot communicate, and even cannot communicate with the server.

3. Not Detected from Server Computer

The next disruption is a disruption caused by an empty Internet Protocol. In addition, unused addresses can also cause the network to not be detected on the server computer. There is a way to find out if our computer can connect to others, by using ping. If there is a “reply from” writing, it means that the computer can connect well / up, otherwise if there is a “request time out” writing, our computer cannot connect to other computers / down.

So that interference with network devices does not occur frequently, a company needs regular network monitoring. The number of devices in a LAN makes network engineers need help monitoring the network. Network engineers need a network monitoring tool or network monitoring application to be able to maintain the performance of network devices.

There are various network monitoring tools that can be your choice, both monitoring tools from abroad and from Indonesia itself, namely NetMonk, network monitoring applications and network monitoring services. Choosing monitoring tools must be careful and according to your needs. Has your company used the right monitoring tools?
